A Taste of Germany in Salisbury

Over Memorial Day weekend, Chad, L'ie Bear and I headed to Salisbury to visit with family and old friends from Germany.  Normally, we would avoid the crazy beach traffic and stay home on a holiday weekend, but Heinz & Doris Baginski along with their daughter, Gerry, and their granddaughter, Collins, were headed down to stay with Grandpa and Mee-maw for a few days and we did not want to miss out on seeing them.

So, L'ie Bear and I headed down the Thursday before the weekend, and we missed most of the traffic.  What normally was a 2.5 hour drive, took us 3.5.  During the summer, an extra hour of traveling time is a good day!  We dropped Wrigley off at Grumpa and Grammy's house (we were staying there for the weekend, since Grandpa and Mee-maw's house was full of guests) and then all four of us headed over to Aunt Sarah and Kevin's house.  They were hosting a BBQ for everyone.  We spent time hanging out in their backyard and feasted on ribs, chicken, fruit salad, jalapeno pie, beans and cupcakes.  YUM!!

The next day, we met up for lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant and then spent a relaxing day at Grandpa and Mee-maw's house.  That afternoon, L'ie took a "big girl" nap on Grandpa and Mee-maw's bed, and she actually slept.  Grandpa reported catching her walking around immediately after leaving the room, but when he checked on her 10 minutes later, she was asleep on the floor.  He scooped her up, placed her on the bed, and she slept for nearly 4 hours.  The Bear also enjoyed playing with Collins, who is an adorable 6 month old baby girl.  And it was fun to watch the grandparents interact with the kiddos.  I remember playing with Collins' mom, Gerry, as a young girl in Berlin, Germany.  And now we are both mommys!!

Ummm.....

Since Chad had to work on Friday, he came to Salisbury early Saturday morning.  We had lunch and then headed over to Ben's Red Swings Playground to meet up with everyone.  L'ie Bear actually enjoyed running all over the place and she had Grandpa and Mee-maw crawling all over the playground.  She was happily playing in the sandbox when Heinz suggested that they go get some ice cream.  He must have said the magic word, because she popped up and off they went.

Off they go for ice cream!

Here you go...

It was a big hit!!

Saturday evening we all went to The Red Roost for some good old Eastern Shore crabs!  It was a fun and LONG dinner topped off with after-dinner shost for Doris and Mee-maw.

Heinz, Doris, Gerry and Collins left to go back to New Jersey on Sunday morning, and Grandpa, Mee-maw, L'ie Bear and I attended an outdoor church service.  The weather was beautiful, the Bear loved being outside, and we even got to see Grandpa's solo with the choir.

We finished out the weekend with some shopping, another BBQ at Grumpa and Grammy's house and plenty of outdoor time!

It certainly was a memorable Memorial Day, and it was a great way to kick off the summer!!  Hopefully, our next blog about the Baginskis will contain photos of a trip to Germany!
