Christmas 2012

Despite the look on L'ie Bear's face in the photo above, Chad and I believe she had a wonderful Christmas this year!  We made so many special memories and I am posting some below...

Christmas Cookie Making - I am so excited that L'ie Bear was able to participate in a fun Pali Family tradition...making sugar cookies.  Grandpa, who is famous for sneaking bites of the cookie dough when no one is looking, was caught giving the Bear her first taste of the dough.  Then we followed that up with a floury mess, as Aunt Sarah, Mee-maw, L'ie Bear and I cut out Christmas shapes to bake.  Thankfully, Sarah's boyfriend, Kevin, came over to help decorate the cookies with icing.  This is a job I despise, since Aunt Sarah loves to cut out a ton of tiny gingerbread men shapes, which results in a LOT of decorating.  But Kevin was definitely up to the task and the two of them made some adorable cookies this year.

The Bear quickly went in for seconds.

It was quite a mess, so off went the pjs.

Enjoying The Holidays - Chad and I want to continue many of our childhood traditions, along with new traditions for our family.  So on November 30th, we put L'ie Bear to bed and spent the rest of the evening decorating the house for the holidays.  We made some delicious Gluhwein, put on Christmas music and brought out the garland, decorative accents, ornaments, and the tree.  We went down memory lane as we placed ornaments on our tree, and looked forward to new memories as we placed a small Christmas tree in L'ie Bear's room, while she slept.  And, we started another holiday tradition I really enjoyed as a child...the advent calendar.  Each day, L'ie was able to open up a small gift from the calendar.  She received hair bows, stickers, mini cars, pez dispensers, and little wind-up toys.  By the end of December, she was looking forward to getting a little gift each morning.

It was quite a task, but we wanted to kick off the holiday season when the Bear woke up on December 1st.  And boy was she quite surprised when we brought her downstairs the next morning.

We did not make too many holiday cookies or treats this year, since we knew we were heading home, where there is always an abundance of cookies around the holidays.  But, that did not stop the Bear (or Wrigley) from begging for the small amount of treats we had.  Are they cute, or what?!?

Begging for treats/cookies!

And this year, I dressed L'ie Bear up for the holidays.  No Christmas is complete without a "Santa's Helper" hat.  As long as I wore reindeer antlers, the Bear was more than happy to keep her hat on.  We spent a lot of time running around the house in our hats.  And Chad was not to be outdone!  His dress-up outfit might not have been traditional for the holidays, but it was too cute and I had to post a photo.

Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, we headed to the Fisher's house.  L'ie Bear's Great Aunt SA, Great Uncle Mike, and cousin Juliana joined us in the celebrations.  That evening, we opened the Bear's presents and then enjoyed a traditional Slovakian meal.

The Bear is such a funny girl!

Stocking time!

I don't think she has enough stuffed animals.

The hockey set from Uncle Ryan was a hit!

GOAL!!!!

The silly net got in the way.

I guess Bear was part of the Slovakian dinner.

Christmas Day

Late Christmas Eve night, we headed back to the Pali house to get ready for Christmas morning.  We had to start the day fairly early, so that we could get the celebrations in before Aunt Sarah had to go to work at 3, but it was definitely worth it.  And later that afternoon, the Fishers and Underinkas came over for dinner.  Just like Christmas Eve, it was a wonderful day.

All of the excitement wore out the Bear.

Christmas Dinner!!

It was a wonderful holiday season, and we truly are blessed to be able to make so many wonderful memories with L'ie Bear.  We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season too, and look forward to see what 2013 will bring our family!

The Bear's Baptism

Christmas Sunday, we celebrated a big day in L'ie Bear's life...her Baptism at Rockawalkin United Methodist Church.  This is the same church, where Grandpa and Mee-maw are members and where Chad and I were married.  In this quaint country church, behind a bold red door and beautiful stained glass windows, Aunt Sarah, Grumpa, Grammy, Grandpa and Mee-maw joined Chad and I to welcome L'ie Bear into the love of Jesus Christ.  (And a special thanks to Aunt Sarah's boyfriend, Kevin, for taking the photos)

Amid the Christmas celebrations, we were called to the front of the church by the Pastor.  This meant a lot to Chad and I because Pastor Patty is someone I hope will become a voice of knowledge, hope and excitement while L'ie Bear undergoes the journey to discover Jesus Christ in the coming years.  And on this day, surrounded by her family and a wonderful congregation, the Bear was baptized.  Chad and I could not have been more happy or proud.

After the service, we posed for some photos and L'ie Bear even enjoyed some time for twirling.

Twirling is one of L'ie Bear's favorite things right now!

Following the service, we headed back to Grandpa and Mee-maw's house for a celebration lunch.  It was a wonderful day and Chad and I appreciate everything our family members did to make this day so special.  We truly are blessed!!

In closing, I would like to include something Pastor Patty wrote in a book she gave to L'ie Bear about the birth of Jesus Christ.

"Today is a big day in your life.  Today your mom, dad, grandparents, and Aunt Sarah come to Rockawalkin UMD to do something very special.  They know you are a very special person with a whole lifetime ahead of you.  They love you so much - you bring so much joy into their lives, that they decided to do this for you.

On this day, your family brought you to Rockawalkin so that you could be baptized.  We stood around a wooden baptismal font in front of the church.  I said some prayers and sprinkled you with water.  This water of baptism marked you as a child of God - a beloved daughter-someone who would be treasured by God and His son Jesus for your whole life.  Your family promised to tell you about Jesus and the congregation promised to love you in his name.  You are so loved, Lauren.  Someday my prayer is that you will truly understand how much Jesus, the little baby spoken of in this book, loves you.  And I hope it will give you joy!  It was a joy for me to baptize you into his kingdom of love today".

AMEN!!

24 Days of Snowflake!!

(NOTE:  My Christmas posts are a little late this year, due to the craziness of 2013.  But better late than never!!  So enjoy and I hope to get the posts back on track this week)

This year Santa sent a elf helper to come keep an eye on L'ie Bear before Christmas.  She arrived on December 1st and watches the Bear all day.  Then she quickly flies back to the North Pole, gives Santa a report, and arrives back to our home in Fairfax before L'ie Bear wakes up.

As if her schedule is not exhausting enough, she even has time to have some fun while everyone sleeps.  She entertains friends, rearranges toys, and finds plenty of time for play.  Here is what Snowflake has been doing this year...

December 1st - L'ie Bear came downstairs and discovered a small elf in front of her highchair.  The elf said her names was Snowflake.  She arrived with chocolate milk (quite a treat for L'ie Bear), donuts, a microphone that made your voice sound like an elf, and a book.

December 2nd - Snowflake drew a self portrait and waited for L'ie Bear to find her.  Once the Bear discovered where she was hiding, she began to tweak the artwork.

December 3rd - Snowflake need to construct something.  So she took out some blocks and built a place to hang out and wait for L'ie to wake up.  The Bear sure enjoyed tearing down the structure.

December 4th - Snowflake had a long night in the North Pole and did not want to get too creative.  She quickly hopped up onto the wreath and made it just in time.  L'ie looked around for quite a bit and was really excited when she finally found her.

December 5th - Snowflake was bored and decided it was time to watch a movie.  Of course, she invited quite a few friends to join her and even brought a wrapped dvd for L'ie Bear to find.  The next morning, we discovered everyone piled on the couch and the Bear received a Mickey Mouse Christmas dvd.  Snowflake can sure pick them, because we have watched that movie over and over and over and over......  Luckily it is Christmas music set to classic Disney cartoons.  Pretty fun to watch!!

December 6th - Snowflake became pretty adventurous that evening.  She found L'ie Bear's slinky and figured out how to use it as a bungee cord.  She dove right off the banister upstairs and loved every minute of it.  Unfortunately, she had to hang around until the Bear discovered her the next morning.

December 7th - After all the fun and games, Snowflake decided it was time to take a break and read a little bit.  She brought L'ie Bear some new books and invited some friends to enjoy the story.  The Bear was very excited to see the new books the next morning.

December 8th - Time for more fun!  Snowflake settled into L'ie Bear's highchair and broke out the playdough.  She even brought some plastic cookie cutters and made fun shapes out of the dough.  The Bear loves using those cookie cutters and we have a great time playing with the playdough...when I am able to convince her not to eat it!

December 9th - Snowflake invited some new wind-up toys to come for a playdate and set up a fun race track on the coffee table.  She settled in with some other friends to watch the races.  L'ie Bear loves the wind-up toys, and while they do not stay within the lines of the race track, they are a  lot of fun to play with.

December 10th - Oh Boy!! Snowflake was fed up with this warm weather we were experiencing in Fairfax.  So she got ahold of the artificial snow and created a fun view off the sliding glass doors.  And what a sweet message as well.

December 11th - This evening, Snowflake became a little mischievous.  She got ahold of a stamp and left L'ie Bear a little surprise on her hands.  But not before she practiced on some paper.  The Bear was very excited to find stamp marks on her hands the next morning.

December 12th - We were all set to head out for L'ie Bear's visit to Salisbury for some grandparent time, but Elmo wanted to make sure to wish the Bear a Merry Christmas.  Snowflake helped him get onto the coffee table and made sure he was properly decked out, blinking nose and all.  What a pleasant surprise for L'ie!

December 13th - L'ie Bear was staying with Grumpa and Grammy, so obviously Snowflake made the trip as well.  She quickly made some friends at Santa's workshop, in their dining room.  And the Bear was very excited to search for her elf in a new house.

December 14th - Snowflake moved around quite a bit, but was spotted hanging out in the front hallway at Grumpa and Grammy's house.

December 15th - Snowflake was waiting for L'ie Bear under the tree.  So much fun to find her!

December 16th - Who knew!?!  Snowflake is musical and quickly discovered the guitars at Grandpa and Mee-Maw's house, while L'ie Bear was staying there.  Now, how did they get her out of there?

December 17th - The Bear and Snowflake were still staying at Grandpa and Mee-maw's house, and this morning, they discovered that Snowflake also played the piano.  She spent the morning belting out holiday tunes on Snowman's mini piano.

December 18th - Snowflake decided to show off her adventurous side again.  This morning, we found her hanging out on Grandpa's sword.  It took L'ie Bear quite a while to find her.  We searched the whole downstairs of the house, but she finally looked up and got quite a giggle out of this sight.

December 19th - Snowflake decided to hang out in another one of our new traditions...the Fisher advent calendar!!  The stockings are the perfect size for her to hang out and keep an eye on L'ie Bear.  And it took the Bear quite a while to find her this morning.

December 20th - Snowflake is also such a big help during the holidays.  Not only does she keep an eye on L'ie Bear, but she also helps clean up ALL of the sippy cups and snack cups we get dirty during an average day.  It was such a treat to come down and see that she had taken care of that for Chad and I!  And since L'ie Bear wants a sippy cup immediately in the morning, she found Snowflake fairly quickly.

December 21st -  Snowflake took advantage of the holiday decorations at Mee-maw and Grandpa's house, and was relaxing in the garland this morning.  L'ie Bear found her very quickly.  And this was the perfect spot for Snowflake to keep a close eye on the Bear, since we were making sugar cookies in this kitchen and she could see if L'ie was being naughty or nice!

December 22nd - Opps!  Somehow Snowflake got locked out and ended up spending the evening on the screened porch.  L'ie Bear found her and immediately let her come in to the house to warm up.  (But not before we snapped a quick photo)  Luckily, she was able to snuggle into all of the wrapped Christmas presents to keep warm.

December 23rd - Snowflake learned her lesson from the night before.  Instead of hiding outside of the warmth of the house, she hid behind the shutters in the kitchen windows.  And even though we forgot to take photos, L'ie Bear enjoyed the search!

December 24th - We spent Christmas Eve at Grumpa and Grammy's house, and Snowflake managed to make a new friend.  She hung out with the wine deer and even brought L'ie Bear some new Christmas pajamas that Mee-Maw bought.

Snowflake headed back to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve.  We hope she had a wonderful time keeping an eye on our Little L'ie Bear, and we are looking forward to seeing her again next December!
