Sports Baby

Fall is always a busy time in the Fisher household, and we are determined to continue attending all of our sporting events now that L'ie Bear is here!  Not only do we have season tickets to the University of Maryland football games, but Chad also has season tickets to the Washington Capitals games.  Sprinkle in a lot of tailgating in UMD's Lot 9B, Chad's recreation hockey leagues, and watching the Caps practice at Kettler and our weekends are pretty much booked!

Luckily, L'ie Bear is a natural tailgater.  So far, she has been to three tailgates and two games.  When at the games, she lasts until halftime.  The fans around us love to watch her and it is not uncommon to find someone making funny faces at her or trying to get her to giggle.  The team is not very good this year, so this gives those fans something fun to do in an otherwise miserable experience!  But after two quarters of mediocre football, L'ie Bear is ready to leave.

While at the tailgate, we have had to pack more gear than usual so that we can keep her entertained in a parking lot for 3+ hours, but it seems to be working out well.  She is never at a loss for attention, she eats her meals in her Bumbo seat, and she naps at her regular napping times in her carseat.  Luckily, we did not hold back on making noise when she was first born, so she can sleep through anything!

Sweet dreaming in Lot 9B

Also, L'ie loves the tailgate because she gets to spend time with some of the tailgating crew...

And of course, there is the required visit to see Testudo...

But Maryland games are not the only sport L'ie has been exposed too.  Although she has not been to her first Capitals hockey game, we have been able to take her to watch their practice.  We dressed her up in all of her gear and Chad could not wait to get her up against the glass.  The players did not hold back, and I thought L'ie would get scared when a slap shot careened off the glass.  Boy was I wrong!!  She loved every minute of it and could not take her eyes off of the players.

I think she definitely inherited our love for sports, and I cannot wait to experience sports through her eyes as she grows up!

Six Months Already?!?!?!

September 15th marked L'ie Bear's 6th month birthday and we celebrated by visiting with family at the beach and having lunch with the ladies in Cambridge, Maryland!  I then took L'ie to my old work place, the State's Attorneys Office for Dorchester County, where she got to spend some time with everyone there.  She was passed from person to person all afternoon, and she seemed quite content.  She has gotten used to being around her grandparents, uncle Ryan, Aunt Sarah and her boyfriend,Mike, but she also really seems to enjoy being around other people she does not see very much.  After spending time with so many different people in Cambridge, I can't help but think back to all of the people she has met in the past six months!

A Giant Sized Weekend!

This past weekend, L'ie attended her first US Open and her first University of Maryland tailgate!  Three things I can say for certain are that:

1.  L'ie Bear is a trooper!  She spent all of Saturday sitting in traffic on the drive up to NY.  Followed by spending over twelve hours at the US Open complex on Sunday.  And she finished the weekend with a five hour drive down to College Park and a rainy tailgate on Monday!  Through all of the travel and hanging around outside, she went with the flow and hardly complained.  To be honest, Chad and I were shocked.  We knew she was a great baby, but we were expecting a little more fussiness from our sleep-deprived Bear.  Talk about a pleasant surprise!!

Family photo at the end of a long day!
Over 12 hours of tennis and L'ie Bear is still going strong!!

2.  Everyone had a great time!  Despite the annoying amount of traffic on Saturday, my parents and I were able to enjoy some tennis that evening while Chad spent some daddy/L'ie time back at the hotel.  Then on Sunday, we each took turns watching/walking around with L'ie Bear while everyone else watched some great tennis matches.  We ended our time in NY with breakfast at the Skylark Diner in Edison, New Jersey.  Chad, L'ie and I then transitioned into college football mode and traveled down to the University of Maryland.  Our tailgate was low-key but quite fun, and despite the heavy rain, it was a successful first tailgate for the Bear!

L'ie Bear's first NJ Diner experience...I think she had a good time!

Dressed to impress in our Terps gear!!  College Park, here we come!!

3.  L'ie Bear still looks small when placed next to giant things!  (See photo evidence below)

That is a HUGE Testudo!!

Starting the "Good Luck" tradition early!

We are starting the "sports" bug early with L'ie, and while she will have no choice when it comes to watching sports, we hope that she will learn to love them as much as we do!  One other thing I can say for certain is that this weekend was certainly a good start to a sports filled future!

Hurricane L'ie Bear

Over the past few weeks, we have encountered some extreme weather!  First an earthquake and then a tropical storm!  L'ie Bear was a trooper through it all.  Actually, during the earthquake, she was able to sleep through everything and I will never forgot the moment when I had to dig through skeins of bright colored yarn to make sure she was ok! (We were in my favorite yarn shop when the earthquake hit).  During the tropical storm, L'ie seemed happy to spend a relaxing weekend at home with her mom and dad.  The three of us snuggled in for the storm and had some quality family time!

As I think back on those two weather phenomenons, I find many similarities to parenthood.  In parenthood, things can happen in a matter of seconds and we will not always know what is going on or what to do about it.  Just like an earthquake.  Also, when it comes to children, there is a lot of planning and waiting for things to happen.  The planning and waiting even begins before the child arrives!!  Just like a tropical storm.

And if you needed additional proof that kids are like crazy weather situations, check out the picture below....

Hurricane L'ie Bear has definitely stormed into our lives and turned our world upside down.  We did wait a while for her to arrive, but she is a  hurricane that I am happy to weather and I cannot wait to see where her path takes her!!
