Five Months!!

L'ie Bear is five months old!  I cannot believe it!  The time has certainly flown by and she seems like a completely different person from the newborn we met on March 15th.

She is now on a pretty good sleep schedule, and while it took a bit of patience and some self-control on our part, she seems to be better rested and much happier.  After a few nights of "crying it out", L'ie is now on the following schedule:

Wake up between 7:00 - 7:30 a.m.
Morning nap at 9:00 a.m.
Wake up from nap between 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Second nap at 1:30 p.m.
Wake up from nap between 3:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Bedtime at 7:30 p.m.

Of course there are times when we have to stray from her schedule, such as visiting grandparents, but we try to keep it up as much as possible and she is always happy to return to her schedule once we are back home!

Also, L'ie has learned how to quickly roll over from her back onto her stomach.  She is having a harder time figuring out how to roll back over and tends to get very frustrated about the impromptu tummy time!  Chad and I have been making an effort not to help her every time she rolls over and to let her learn how to solve the problem herself.  Of course, once she finds her thumb, she is more than happy to just go to sleep on her stomach...so there is not much learning going on yet.

Finally, L'ie Bear is has begun to eat solid foods.  While she is still mostly breastfed, we have gotten the go ahead from her doctor to begin introducing fruits, veggies, and cereal to her every day diet.  As you saw in a previous post, we started with bananas.  She did not care for them at first, but began to enjoy the taste after a few days.  She even went so far as to grab ahold of the spoon (with her left hand!!!) and shove the food into her mouth.  Did I mention that she is a bit impatient when it comes to food???  The same thing happened with cereal and pears.  In a few days, we will be moving on to peas...wish us luck!!

While many things have changed in such a short amount of time, the most noticeable change has been Bear's appearance.  She has gained 4 pounds and has grown nearly 4 inches since her birth.

She is such a happy baby and seems to enjoy the rocking chair.  Soon she will be rocking by herself in that chair and I will definitely have the camera ready to document that moment.  Happy Five Months L'ie Bear!!!

Food Glorious Food!!

After months of dining on a menu of milk, milk, and more milk, L'ie finally got a taste of real food tonight!  At her weight check this afternoon, the doctors determined that even though she had not gained a lot of weight, she was progressing well.  She is a very healthy baby and they finally gave us permission to give her a few spoonfuls of either cereal or fruit a day.

I was barely able to contain my excitement at having reached this milestone, and immediately drove to the grocery store to study the different baby food options.  Who knew there were so many brands/flavors out there?  L'ie and I settled on bananas and cheerios and drove home.  I unloaded the groceries and then waited for Chad to arrive.  This was definitely something we should experience together!

It was well worth the wait.  We placed L'ie in her excrsaur so that she was upright, and her eyes never left the yellow mush also known as baby food.  During the first bite, she grabbed the spoon and shoved the whole thing in her mouth.   Chad seemed a little shocked and L'ie seemed very unhappy with her decision!!  This first taste was not a success.  Most of the bananas had dribbled out of her mouth and her lips had turned up in distain.  Glad we did not start off with peas!!

L'ie Bear is not sure she likes this whole "food" thing!

However, after a few more spoonful attempts, she started to taste the food and did not let ALL of it dribble down her chin...

All in all, it was a memorable first attempt and I cannot wait to discover which foods L'ie Bear loves and which foods she hates!  My hope is that we have a "foodie" on our hands and she will enjoy everything!  A mom can always hope!!
